Hagaon Harav Akiva Hacohen Strasser, (circa 1860-1927), the son of Harav Yaakov Yehuda Leib Hacohen Strasser, son-in-law of the Ksav Sofer, was Av Beis Din of Miyava & Takaj.

He studied under the tutelage of his revered grandfather the Ksav Sofer as well as by his uncle the Shevet Sofer, and married the daughter of Maharam Broide, Av Beis Din of Shusburg & Miyava. Harav Akiva Hacohen Strasser fought valiantly to preserve authentic Torah Judaism, frequently quoting his great-grandfather the Chasam Sofer’s famous motto, “New (Chodosh) is forbidden from the Torah.”

From 1884 he filed his father in law’s position as Rabbi in Miyava & from 1898 he was Rabbi of Tokaj until his passing in 1927. Several of his Torah essays and writings were compiled in Toras Avos (Brooklyn, 1990).
