Sefer Pe’at HaShulchan – laws of the Land of Israel compiled from the words of the Tana’im and the Rishonim per the Gr"a and his halachic methods, by Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov.

Safed, Yisrael Beck Press. 1836, first edition.

This is the important work by Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov, for which he is known as "Ba’al Pe’at HaShulchan." The book is adorned from approbations by rabbis of Jerusalem, Safed, Tiberias, Damascus and Baghdad, and with an approbation by Rabbi Moshe Sofer, author of Chatam Sofer, Rabbi Avraham Abele Poswaller av beit din of Vilna, and others. Historic introduction by Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov: A description of his teacher’s, the Gr"a’s, character, the ascent of the Perushim to the Land of Israel after the Gr"a’s passing, the suffering the immigrants endured in the Land. Important introduction for the historic documentation and research on the Gr"a and the ascent of the Perushim.

One of the first seven books printed by Beck in the Land of Israel (in Safed). The book’s printing was delayed at the press due to the rampaging riots in Safed in 1834. (In Av of 1834, there were several printed compilations already in the possession of the Chata"m Sofer). In his introduction, Rabbi Yisrael of Shklov describes these events including the destruction of the press by the rebels. Comparison of the letters reveals that the first 5 leaves and from leaf 94 onward were printed after the destruction. The rest of the leaves were printed previously.
