Decorated with a heart shaped silver dedication, engraved are the words:

"Presented to Mr. Sol Cohen by the _  Collectors of the M/C Jewish Hospital"

On the corners of the wallet there is also  three silver dedications which read:

"As a small token of appreciation for services rendered"

The wallet probably signified a type of gift, that was given to fundraisers at that time that helped raise the funds necessary for opening and keeping the Jewish hospital open.

In past times there was great controversy surrounding the idea of having a separate Jewish hospital. The established, wealthy Jewish elite argued that a separate hospital would be bad for integration, whilst the middle class professionals and recent immigrants on the pro-hospital side argued the elite were out of touch with the poor Jewish population and its needs.

Condition: In overall fair condition one of the corners is missing the silver guard-edge and one portion of the inside wallet is detached from the upper encasement. Some writing faded.

Fully hallmarked.
