The Gaon Harav Moshe Schick (1807-1879), renowned as Maharam Schick, was a leading disciple of the Chasam Sofer who perpetuated his legacy in Hungary. He taught many great disciples and his contemporary Rabbanim all accepted his halachic rulings.

Maharam Schick was appointed to the rabbinate in Yergen in the year 1838 upon the recommendation of the Chasam Sofer who would occasionally vacation in Yargen and listen to his student teach Torah.

MaHaram Mischik’s student, Rabbi Zalman Spitzer (son-in-law of the Chatam Sofer) eulogized him, declaring: ‘He never sinned, and remained pure and holy from his youth until his demise. His holiness, abstinence, and intensity in learning was legendary. The Chatam Sofer was effusive in his praise of his disciple, saying that there were no new ideas in Torah that he could teach him, since he knew everything. Additionally, he mirrored Rabbi Akiva Eiger in his great humility.”
