Although the title states "chelek rishon", in reality it contains Part II as well. The first part concludes at the end of the first column on f. 117 and Part II begins on the second column.  Surprisingly, the text from the Aleinu prayers: "Sheheim mishtachavim umithpalelim" ("they bow and pray“) has not been attended to by the censor (f. 128b).

Overall Great condition. stains, many pages are repaired well and have later replaced text, a few pages have tape repairs sometimes affecting text, later binding has rubbed out corners, maroon leather spine.

After having served at the press of Foa in Sabbioneta, Jacob ben Naphtali Cohen of Gazolo came to Mantua in 1556 and during the following eight years established a “splendid record for good typographical work.” D. Amram The Makers of Hebrew Books in Italy (1963) p. 325.
