Metz, 1769. Second edition, with an approbation from the author of Sha’agat Aryeh – given for this edition.
Signed on the title page by Rabbi Yedidyah Tiah Weill – one of the gedolim of his generation – av beit din of Karlsruhe and the entire state of Baden, son and successor of his great father – the author of Korban Netanel, and primary disciple of Rabbi Yehonatan Eybeschütz.
His beautiful illustrated signature is displayed at the top of the title page: "Yedidyah, known as Tiah Weill"
Rabbi Yedidya Tiah Weil: (1722-1806) was born in Prague to his holy father, the great scholar Rabbi Nathanel Weil, author of "Korban Nathanel". He studied in the yeshivot of the Gaon Rabbi Yonatan Eybeschutz and the "Noda BiYehuda". During this time, he assisted his father in writing his work on the Ros”h.
In 1754, he was appointed as the rabbi of Karlsruhe in Germany, after his father’s passing, who served as the rabbi of Bautitz. Initially, Rabbi Weil refused the offer, but later accepted and settled in his father’s position in Karlsruhe until his passing in 1806.
Rabbi Weil was known for his tremendous scholarship and is mentioned in the responsa of the great scholars of his generation, including the Chatam Sofer and the "Noda BiYehuda". He was also wealthy and diversified. In his lifetime, he published his commentary on the Haggadah of Passover and wished to leave the work unpublished. Only in the last generation, did his Torah teachings come to light, including novella on the Talmud, the Rambam, and Responsa. Additional novella in all areas of Torah knowledge remain in his handwritten manuscripts.
Overall in Good condition, light marginal worming to first 2 pages, not cut straight at top, new leather binding.
